Nerima Gardens
Parks are great fun for us to play in, but what about learning as we play? Nerima Gardens at Queens Park in Ipswich provides a cultural experience in the outdoors that mum and dad enjoyed as much as us kids. These gardens were built in 2001 to celebrate Ipswich’s relationship with its sister city, Nerima in Tokyo, Japan. This relationship is further fostered each year with students from Nerima High Schools visiting the local Ipswich schools. The gardens are the greeting area each year for the start of this exchange program.
It was really cool playing in and exploring the Japanese garden and all its features. We learnt that each section of the garden has a
meaning and a philosophy behind it.
The waterfalls and steams were great to play in, but they aren’t flowing anymore due to water restrictions. There is even a Zen garden that is fascinating.

These gardens are a great place for kids to learn about a different culture at the same time. It is an ideal place for the family picnic. The garden is free to enter and explore. The opening hours change from Summer to Winter.
