Never Fail Chocolate Cake
The Never Fail Chocolate Cake recipe has been passed down through the family from our grandmother, to our mother and now to us. It is one of the easiest cakes you could ever make. Everything is mixed in the saucepan so there is minimal dishes to do at the end. We kids love to hear that! Supposedly, never fail this cake has in fact been failed by a member of our family. Uncle Ian managed to make this supposedly never fail cake fail, not once but twice! As a budding young cook, Uncle Ian forgot to beat the mixture properly and was left with flour lumps in his flat cake. Mummy loves telling us this story and we laugh whenever we hear it! Follow the recipe below and hopefully, you can achieve Chocolate Cake success.
Ingredients
3 tablespoons of butter
2 tablespoons of cocoa
1 cup of sugar
½ cup of milk
1 cup of self raising flour
2 eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla
Method
- Melt the butter in a saucepan.

- Add the cocoa. Stir until Smooth.
- Add other ingredients in the order shown above. Make sure to sift the dry ingredients so you have less lumps to contend with.

- Beat for 2 minutes. (Unlike Uncle Ian)
- Wipe the inside of a ring tin over with a small amount of butter and then cover with a light dusting of flour to prevent the cake from sticking to the edges.
- Pour the mixture into the ring tin.
- Bake for ½ to ¾ of an hour in a moderate oven (180 degrees Celsius

After allowing it to cool, your Never Fail Chocolate Cake should be ready to decorate! This is the fun part! After covering the cake with icing you can top it using lollies, chocolates, decorettes or 100s and 1000s. We used smarties and freckles to decorate our cake.

This is an easy to make birthday cake which the kids can enjoy making as well as eating. We certainly do!
