Woodend Nature Centre
Wow! Look at all the birds – no wait, they are BATS! At Woodend Nature Centre we were so close to the Ipswich City Centre yet it appeared as though we were in the back of beyond.

The Centre has a series of information boards along the viewing deck enabling visitors to learn more about the flying foxes or fruit bats.

We were amazed to read that there are over 500, 000 bats of three different species living in that area.

There were Black Flying Foxes, Grey Headed Flying Foxes and Little Red Flying Foxes.
Situated on 15 hectares of bushland, the colony began to develop in 1984 in its current location near the Bremer River. When we first saw the bats circling above and roosting in the trees, Georgina got a little scared.

Even though she got scared we are definitely going to go back out at night to view the bats leaving the colony. As nocturnal animals, the bats will be much more active at night. It will be amazing!

The centre is open seven days a week and can be found at 35 Williams Street, Coalfalls. Click here for a
